The UK based bio-diesel supplier company which entered into a multi million dollar contract with Labland Biotechs Private Limited to encourage planting of jatropha curcas sapling has decided to take up its cultivation in Arabia.

Though the Arab countries are prime suppliers of fossil fuels, D1 oils Plc, has planned to encourage jatropha cultivation in more than 300,000 acres as an alternative energy. They have taken up the pilot project in Egypt and Africa to grow jatropha asthere is an increased. demand for bio diesel in Europe.

The increase in land fertility after jatropha culitvation has enabled the farmers to grow edible crops under the shade of jatropha plants. There is wide scope for growing jatropha in waste lands in farming areas in South East Asia and for inter-cropping in five million hectares of coconut farms.

The firm has tried 38 inter-crops in Philipines and other countries as it is profitable. Jatropha is a value-added crop to make use of 60,000 acres of waste land.

Labland Biotech Private Limited signed an MoU with Shyadhri College, Shimoga for growing and promoting jatropha cultivation.
